View of Río Manzanares from teleférico

Today after class we went to the Teleférico of Madrid. It is a gondola ride that takes you all the way from the parks at the west side of Madrid, across the train tracks, across the river to the Casa de Campo. We got great views of Madrid from the ride. The Casa de Campo is a huge recreational area/park, one of the largest in Europe. It used to be the country hunting estate for the royals and is 7 square miles of woods, with hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, an amusement park, gardens, athletic fields, a zoo, and a lake. Interestingly, the Madrid skyline has very few modern skyscrapers (less than 6). Most of the buildings are of medium height (10-15 stories) and varied architectural styles.
