After class and lunch, we took the bus into the central city. We visited MUVIM, Museo Valencia de la Illustració y la Modernidad. We had to make a reservation to see the show, so after doing that, we shopped a little and then returned. The show was a multimedia exhibit about the history of the enlightenment, going from religious persecution, through the printing press, the scientists and thinkers who changed our world view, explorers, etc. It was really interesting; they had us walk through various rooms with video, music, props to look at, and so on. Unfortunately we were with a group of English teenaged boys who were behaving very badly – we hoped people didn’t think that they were American!

Then we walked to the Torres de Quart, one of the two remaining parts of the old city wall leftover from 1300’s when Valencia was a walled Christian city. Since then they have been used as a prison and also for storage during the Spanish Civil War. We could walk to the top where we got great views out over the city. On the way home we stopped for gelato and chatted with the owner – he let us try many different flavors including violet.
